Prof. (Mrs.) Mary Olire Edema (Nee Ebido) attended Academy Primary School Sapele, St. Ita's Girls Grammar School Sapele, Idia College, Benin City and the University of Benin, Benin City. She graduated with Second Class, Upper Division in Education (Chemistry) in 1982, has MSc in Organic Chemistry (1986) and PhD in Organic/Medicinal Chemistry (1997) from the University of Benin, Benin City after a stay at the School of Chemistry, University of Bristol, England for laboratory work.
She taught at Western Boys' High School, Benin City (1984 to 1987), Oba Ewuare Grammar School, Benin City (1987 to 1989), University of Benin (1989 to 2014) and Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (2014 to June 2016) before her appointment as Provost.
A member of various international and local scientific and gender related organizations including:

On January 20, 2014, she delivered her INAUGURAL LECTURE at the Akin Deko Auditorium, University of Benin, Benin City with the title 'Help From Nature, Addition To Nature: What Does It Contain?'
She has co published three books, contributed chapters in five other books and has over forty scientific articles and technical papers in local and international journals. She has supervised three doctoral students and over twenty masters degree students.
She has attended over twenty local and international conferences and is the Managing Editor, TWOWS (OWSD) Africa International Journal of Science and Technology.
She has acted as external examiner to undergraduate and postgraduate students in many Universities as well as external assessor for Readership and Professorial positions in many universities.
