20th Convocation Ceremony Of The College Of Education, Warri

The 20th Convocation Ceremony of the College of Education, Warri was marked with a Pre-Convocation Press Briefing, a Novelty football match, a Gala/Award Ceremony and the Graduation Ceremony.  

Novelty Football Match: The Novelty Football Match was between the College Staff and Alumni Association. The match was held on the evening of Thursday, 11th May, 2023. It was so much fun to see the staff of the College and agile members of the Alumni Association slug it out on the field. The Chairman College Council, Chief V.O.T Abanum and other members of the College Council were present at the match. The Provost, Dr, D.O Oyovwi was present  to start off the game. Other members of the College Management team were also present. A good number of College staff turned out as well as some members of the Alumni association , to cheer on the players.

At the end of the game, the Alumni association emerged winner through a penalty shootout. It was a day of fun and laughter at the College and a good recreational activity.

Gala/Award Ceremony: The Gala/Award ceremony was held on Friday, 12th May, 2023. It was a special day the College set aside to appreciate some persons who have in one way or the other contributed to the growth and development of the College. 

Leadership awards were presented to High Chief Oweizide Ekpemupolo, Chief Kestin Pondi  and Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi. Achievement awards were presented to Hon. Austin Uroye, Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata, Hon. Ferguson Onwo, Hon. Matthew Opuoru. Hon. Ramson  Onoyake, Hon. ( Dr)  Michael Tidi , Hon. (Dr.) Godwin Ebosa and Chief Joseph  Tubodei Penawou. Distinguished Alumnus awards were also presented to some alumnus who have stood out in their various walks of life. some of those who received this award include Hon. (Mrs.) Rose Esewu, Dr, Emmanuel Oniyama, Mr. Joshua Ozobokeme amongst others.

The Gala /Award ceremony was hosted by both the College Management and members of the Alumni association.

Top Government functionaries and dignitaries from different walks of life, as well as the immediate past Provost of the College, Prof. Mary Olire Edema and her spouse were in attendance.

The convocation lecture was also delivered on that day by Prof. (Mrs.) Rose Aziza, a renowned Professor of Linguistics from the Delta State University Abraka. The title of the lecture was Colleges of Education in Nigeria: The Way Forward.

It was a beautiful ceremony marked with lots of interesting activities.  

The Graduation Ceremony: This was held on Saturday, 13th May, 2023. The ceremony covered graduates from 2010/2011 to 2021/2022 academic session.

The State Governor, Sen. (Dr.) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa was represented by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Hon. (Dr.) Kingsley Ashibuogu. While presenting the Governor’s address, he stated that the government will do everything in its power, so that higher institution projects are not abandoned.

The Executive Chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Mrs. Lauretta Onochei, who is also an alumna of the College was also in attendance. While she was giving her goodwill message at the ceremony, she stated that she will do everything in her power to give the College a facelift.

The Provost, Dr. Dickson Oyovwi, called on the Government and private individuals to partner with the College, so that abandoned projects can be completed 

The Deans of the various schools presented the graduating students to the provost, and the were handed the Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE).

It was a worthwhile and beautiful ceremony.

Kudos to the chairman planning committee, Dr. (Mrs.) Fidelia Ighrakpata, the Deputy provost, and other members of the planning committee for a job well done.
