College of Education

The 3rd of April, 2019 was a very special day in the College of Education, Demonstration Secondary School.

The Principal, Mrs. Amoniya Kingba Onyemekeihia, staff and students hosted the first Cultural day celebration with the theme DSS! OUR CULTURE OUR PRIDE.

The event was graced by the Provost, Prof. (Mrs.) Mary Olire Edema and other members of management, staff from different cultural groups in the main College, parents, palace chiefs from Warri kingdom in their full regalia and even the spouse of the principal, Dr. Ralph Onyemekeihia, fully kitted in traditional attire. The various tribal groups in their different attires, gave a display of their traditional dances. It was so beautiful and colourful. Those present were moved to get up from their seats to join them in the dance.

The principal stated that the event became necessary because she had observed that children of this generation knew little or nothing about their culture.

The Provost in her speech, applauded the management and staff of DSS for the initiative. She acknowledged and appreciated the chairman and members of the PTA for their contributions towards the growth of the school. She made reference to the DSS Alumni, and encouraged that they should be carried along in subsequent events. She encouraged parents to inculcate cultural values in children in reference to food, language and dressing. Finally, with humility, she appreciated the Olu of Warri for recognizing the College and sending chiefs to grace the event.

The event was grand and successful. It was a beautiful an unforgettable experience for all those present.
