Pre Convocation Press Conference of The College of Education, Warri

College of Education Warri, Delta state held a Press conference ahead of its 20th Convocation ceremony on Thursday, 11th May, 2023, at the Academic Board Room.

Speaking at the Conference, The Provost of the College, Dr Dickson Oyovwi, who assumed office on the 21st of June 2021 as the first Home bred Provost of the Institution , thanked the Governor of Delta state, Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa who appointed him as the Provost based on the recommendation of VOT Abanum Led Governing Council of the College.

He also expressed gratitude to his predecessor , Prof. (Mrs.) Mary Olire Edema, for a smooth Transition and the Trade Union on Campus – COEASU, SUCCOEN, and NASU, for creating a cordial industrial environment on Campus.

Dr Dickson Oyovwi said the 20th Convocation ceremony covers the 2011/2012 academic session to 2021 /2022 academic session .

Dr Oyovwi added that a total number of 2,428 graduands would be Convocating on Saturday May 13, 2023 ,adding that among them 10 graduands have distinction , 522 got credit , 1,534 got merits while 180 graduated with pass .

The provost also said the Gala and Award ceremony will hold on Friday May 12,2023

The Provost thanked the Delta State government for attracting Development to the institution . He also commended the state Governor for re-engaging the 99 staff of the College who were relieved of their duties in 2015 for alleged fraudulent employment.

On staff welfare , Dr Oyovwi said the College management has not failed in paying salaries and honorariums to staff as and when due , adding that staff development programmes and institution based research sponsored by Tetfund are on course without hitches .

He further disclosed that the management has attracted some projects including renovation of one storey building block of classrooms , sponsored by Tetfund , completed and furnished , ongoing two storey building of classroom and offices sponsored by Tetfund amongst others .

He thanked the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and Delta State Government for responding to the College when a heavy rainstorm destroyed the College walkways and the roofs of some buildings .

The Provost of the College, Dr Oyovwi, urged Delta State Government and other government agencies to assist the College in completing the abandoned DESOPADEC main Administrative building and landscaping of the institution to prevent flooding and provide a facelift for the College .

Dr Oyovwi disclosed that the institution is affiliated with Delta State University Abraka and the University of Benin for the running of Degree and postgraduate programmes.

He added that the College of education Warri is also affiliated with Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Rumuolumeni Port Harcourt for Masters Degree in Education , stressing that the first set of students are preparing for the 2nd semester examination .
