6th in the Series of Inaugural Lectures

The College had the 6th Inaugural Lecture on Thursday, 20th May, 2021.
It was delivered by Dr. (Mrs.) Fidelia Chukwudumebi Ighrakpata, the current Deputy Provost, and a Chief Lecturer in the Physics Department.

The topic was A Physicist / Geophysicist Approach to Solving Man’s Challenges.
The Lecture examined how steady power generation could be a game changer in economic development. It established that electricity can be generated using sugar cane bagasse and also explored how steady power can be generated with the use of renewable energy.

While giving the opening remarks, the Provost, Prof. (Mrs.) Mary Olire Edema, gave an update on events in the College, since the last Inaugural Lecture. She stated that amidst the Covid-19 complications, the College is running the 2020/2021 Academic session smoothly, and it’s gradually coming to the end of first semester, with matriculation and exams around the corner.
She expressed concerns on the level of insecurity, hunger and lack of employment in the Country, and suggested the exploration of local technology to help solve the problems, adding that the country has the human capacity.

After the Inaugural Lecturer finished explaining her contributions to the body of knowledge, she was decorated by the Provost, amidst cheers from the audience. Afterwards, there was an Ema dance presentation.

The Lecture attracted HRM Dr. Emmanuel E. Sideso, Abe 1, JP, OON, the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom and other chiefs from Uvwie traditional Council. The Inaugural Lecturer is a member of the council.

Other dignitaries present were the Deputy Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Christopher Ochor; the Minority leader, Hon. Innocent Anidi; the chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon. Charles Emetulu; the member representing Warri South I, Isoko South II and Burutu I, Hon. Austin Uroye, Hon. Ferguson Onwo and Hon. Asupa Forteta respectively. The Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata, who happens to be the husband of the Inaugural Lecturer, was also present.
Principal Officers, College Deans and some Director, Excos of COEASU, SSUCOEN and SUG, as well as members of the College Community, some family members and friends of the Inaugural Lecturer, were present.
