Appreciation of commitment to selfless service, no opportunity to help slipped you by. These are the near exact words on a plaque presented to Prof. (Mrs.) Mary Olire Edema as the academic staff of the Chemistry department, Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE) paid her a thank visit for her mentoring and selfless service .
The head of department, Dr. A. Ogunsipe who led the delegation said they needed to catch on the Provost’s last days in office to let her know how grateful they are as a department. He said they were amazed at the determination of the Provost to still find time out of her busy schedule as the Chief Executive Officer of the College to still organize lectures for and also supervises her project students.
Prof. Edema who was overwhelmed by the visit said teaching and mentoring is already a lifestyle for her and not teaching because she was appointed a CEO will not be to her best interest. She was particularly happy at the kind gesture of her colleagues and look forward to fully uniting with them on completion of her tenure in no distant time. Knowing she will retire with this crop of staff in the department is a thing of joy to her.
Other members of the department who were on the team are Prof. O. K. Abiola, Prof T. O. Egbuchunam, Prof. K. Ibe, Dr. W. Ivwurie, Dr. E. E. Elemike, Dr. C. Mbonu, Dr. G. Obi and Mr. K. Odeja. Highlights of the visit was the presentation of the Appreciation Plaque to the Provost.
